3/4AR have nearly finished their English project on Pannikin and Pinta by Colin Thiele. They have been focussing on creating, editing, illustrating and publishing a chapter inspired by the book in a virtual setting. The students have managed to bring their texts to life and it is wonderful to walk through and experience their written work in an immersive virtual environment. They still need to do some final editing of their text for simple grammatical errors but overall have done a wonderful job engaging with this demanding technology.
Students have been working in pairs to bring their selected chapter to life and publish their text in a virtual space. They still need to edit their work before the final publication date in week nine but some are well on their way to achieving this. Using virtual worlds in English projects is difficult and demanding for 4/5AR because not only do the students have to write, edit and publish but they also need to learn the skills to navigate the software and build in a three dimensional environment that is new to them. Sim-on-a-Stick is also highly technical and using it can be quite tiring. Projects of this nature demand that students operate and engage much higher order thinking skills and the class is working very well and already their chapters are being brought to life.
